Data and metering
What does market location mean?
A market location is a place in the energy market where energy is generated or consumed. Its market location ID, or MaLo-ID, is assigned by the network operator and remains in place for as long as the market location exists. It appears on the energy bill.
For property and asset managers, accurate allocation is fundamental: which energy contract belongs to which property, use and contracting party?
SCHEMATIC ALLOCATION
PROPERTY PRACTICE
Allocation creates clarity.
Record the MaLo-ID alongside property address, use, contracting party, supplier and contract end date. An address alone is insufficient where several supply points exist at one site. Document responsibility changes and property handovers clearly.
An example.
Schematic example: communal areas and a tenant area in an office building are supplied separately. The data overview contains individual records for the market locations that actually exist. The property remains their common parent allocation.
The diagram shows one possible structure, not a prescribed metering concept. Actual relationships between market locations, metering locations and devices must be clarified using the documents.
WHAT MATTERS
Three questions for your portfolio.
Is the correct contracting party assigned to each supply point?
Are property additions and removals aligned with contract data?
Make the distinction clear
MaLo-ID, meter number and contract number serve different purposes. A building must not automatically be equated with one market location. Nor can the metering structure be inferred solely from the number of meters.
