Markets and prices
What does peakload mean?
Peakload describes a standardised electricity trading profile covering a defined subset of hours within a product period. The relevant product specification determines which days and hours are included.
The data basis, contract scope and distinction from related terms are essential for applying this to a portfolio. A high annual volume says little about how well a block fits. For this, you need consumption data over time.

PROPERTY PRACTICE
What does this mean for your portfolio?
A peakload product does not automatically reflect a particular building’s demand peaks. Compare its calendar with your portfolio’s operating hours. Night operation, weekends and seasonal characteristics may require additional supply. The term must also be distinguished from measured maximum demand.
An example.
Our own example: a hotel needs energy at night and on weekends. A product covering selected daytime hours therefore cannot fully cover hotel demand, even if its annual volume matches.
Simplified example to explain the term. Actual metering data, the supply concept and agreed terms are decisive.
WHAT MATTERS
Three questions for your portfolio.
Which consumption falls outside them?
How is the remaining profile covered?
Make the distinction clear
Distinction from baseload: a high annual volume says little about how well a block fits. For this, you need consumption data over time.
